Sleep Apnea
Durning sleep apnea no oxygen reaches the lungs, brain, and rest of the body. This lack of oxygen sets off a complicated reaction in the brain that causes the muscles of the tongue to tighten allowing the airway to open and allowing oxygen to flow. This is a cyclical condition of blocking the airway and unblocking causes arousals and sleep disruption.
